Masseter Botox in London

Masseter Botox in London

It has recently come to my attention that a huge number of people are seeking Masseter Botox in London. It turns out that an alarming number of us suffer with some degree to excessive teeth grinding or bruxism in London. Can you guess the main culprit in this condition? Stress!...Now it's making sense right?

For those if us who suffer with this – it typically takes place at night whilst we are sleeping. Why does it matter? You might ask.. It doesn’t matter for everyone, but for some people they may notice a number of directly related issues:

  • A generalised feeling of tension in the jaw which may radiate into the neck or the forehead.
  • Pain in the jaw or ‘TMJ’ (Temporomandibular joint disorder).
  • Bulkiness of the jaw muscle.
  • Damage to teeth themselves.
  • Excessive clicking or locking of the jaw.

Sound familiar?....

 So what is the solution?

STOP GRINDING YOUR TEETH - OBVIOUSLY!!!!

However, joking aside, this is a habit you usually repeat subconsciously whilst you are sleeping making it a very, very difficult habit to break indeed.

  • Dentists will often suggest wearing a physical guard at night to time stop you engaging in grinding.
  • Botulinum Toxin injections carefully placed into the masseter muscle work by relaxing the muscle there and avoid the need to wear a mouth guard at night time.

Masseter Botox - The process

As with all Botox treatments, the process starts by identifying the exact position where your muscles lie.

Although we all have roughly the same anatomy (as laid out in any anatomy text book) it is always essential to get an understanding of the individual anomalies. Sometimes the muscle may be stronger on one side or the other, sometimes the muscles may not lie in ‘text book’ positions.

We will map put your muscles by simply asking you to bite down several times - contracting the muscles we want to target and exaggerating their position.

Next up we use a special needle and syringe to ensure that the Botox actually reaches the body of the muscles, where we want it to do its thing!
As with all our Botox treatments we start with the lowest dose we think you will need to experience the maximum result. A few tiny, painless injections later, the treatment is done. You will leave the clinic with zero ‘tell tale’ signs you have had anything done at all.

The results

You may start to notice results within a couple of days of treatment, this ‘kicking in’ phase can last up to around 2 weeks. If you are having Masseter Botox for the first time with us, we would always recommend that you book a follow up appointment. The purpose of this, is to get together and ensure we are both happy with your results. It could be, at this appointment that we choose to increase the treatment slightly or we may decide that the result is spot on first time.

The magical relaxing effect of Botox in the masseter muscle will last around 3- 6 months.

Repeating the treatment

The whole treatment can be repeated after three months. You may choose to wait longer if you feel the effects are still helping you – it is not uncommon for Botox Bruxism treatment results to even last for around 6 months, this can depend on the strength of your muscles and the associated effects you experience from excessive jaw clenching.

Unwanted effects

It is really unusual to experience unwanted effects of this treatment as long as it is carried out by an experienced, skilled practitioner. Masseter Botox is an ‘advanced technique’ and therefore it is really important to do your homework before choosing a clinic. How do you know if your practitioner is skilled and experienced? One easy way to be confident in your choice of practitioner is by using the website Save Face - a government database of clinics who go through a rigorous inspection process ensuring their safely and credibility.
